Road Trip-Charleston

I had a meltdown in Charleston, South Carolina. I realized how fluffy I got. Let's just say that the pictures you see of me are mostly from the shoulders up. Good news is, I am on an exercise routine and eating better...waaaaaaaaaaaay better. Except for the ice cream and brownies I will be having tonight... What...? I need to reward myself.

We stayed at a beautiful waterfront hotel called Harbour View Inn, located in historical Charleston surrounded by antique shops and restaurants. One of the things I liked about staying there was having breakfast on the rooftop at sunrise. Romantic. The room we stayed in was beautiful and lovely decored with modern pieces with an antique feel. The color palette felt like Tommy Bahama exploded in the four walled room. Niice. The hotel lobby had fresh water, snacks annnd... wait for it...they put out a fresh batch of cookies in the evening with warm milk for those looking for late night indulgence. Hubs went for it. I restrained myself. So hubs gave the hotel 2 thumbs up on that alone, with a handful of cookies for the roadtrip back home.

What we loved about Charleston was how rich the history is there, the architecture, southern cooking, theatre, museums, and the ability to walk just about anywhere you need to go, and the locals are laid back and super friendly too. I totally rocked humid hair, its a fad there it being right off of the water and all. {humid hair-is hair that frizzes up into a hot mess after you spend 30 min. blowing it straight the second one steps outside}
I also rekindled my on-again off-again relationship with Diet Coke. For realz. We broke up though. I'm into more clear things like water these days.

Road Trip-Hiking

I never really know what to wear when we go hiking. This time I opted for yoga capris. The moment we stepped into the mountain trail at Crowders Mountain in North Carolina, I wished I wore long pants. It was lush and all you could hear were the thousands of insects humming around us for miles and miles. Also the warning signs of insect bites and the "watch out for Yellow Jackets" had me extra cautious and wishing I was a Cullen to be able to have extra good eye sight (sorry about the Twilight reference) and the the ability to run for my life if I had to.

During our hike, hubs thought he saw a skunk ahead perched up on a log. This delayed our hike a bit as we lingered around waiting for it to leave. Hubs tossed a rock in its direction and nothing. The closer we got we realized....it was the root of a tree that very much could pass as a skunk from afar.

Road Trip-North Carolina Part 2

A 10 hour trip north landed us in Belmont, North Carolina. Belmont is a small town flanked by two rivers. It was so beautiful, peaceful, and quiet {remember, we are city folk, so anything away from noise is peaceful}. The people in town were so kind and hospitable. Our destination for the trip was to go to the National White Water Center. This place was the perfect path for those seeking an adventure (ahem, hubs and I):
 Admission was affordable. The admission price for 2 people was the price of one ticket to Disney. There are different adventures you can do. Hubs and I are both over-achievers so we did white water rafting, zip-lining, mountain biking, rock climbing, jumped off a 46-foot tower (controlled free fall) all in a day, a looong day. Then we wondered why we were so sore the next day. Then I remembered why.

I would have posted pictures of me rock climbing, however, my butt looks huge and I don't want to frighten anyone.
We had such a blast here. I never thought I had it in me to do some of these things. In the middle of riding the 2200 ft. zip line I started to cry. I couldn't believe that I actually went with it. It was exhilarating! The best part is that it is family friendly and have great things for kiddos to do too. We were impressed by the staff and their extensive training. If you are looking for a different kind of trip to go to, I recommend this place!
Thanks for zipping by (haha, I had to)

Road Trip-North Carolina-Part 1

A few weeks ago we packed up the car and headed north on a much needed getaway. I love road trips. Hubs, not so much. So of course it was up to me to entertain him on the way there. I sang all kinds of songs, told stories and made funny faces and noises. I hope he appreciates that. Laugh.
We ventured up to North Carolina and made a couple stops on the way there:

On a stop for fuel we saw these enormous elephants. It was hilarious because we were in the middle of nowhere. Since hubs and I are on a Instagram kick we agreed this would be a good photo opp.

Did I ever mention how much I love Elephants? We have a big one in our living room, his name is Kane.
Then hubs saw this fireworks superstore. After a sigh I agreed to go in. It was really neat. They had all sorts of crazy looking fireworks, but I like the little sparklers the best.
At this point we were passing through South Carolina.
Our destination was Belmont, North Carolina, where we had an adventurous time at the
 Stay tuned for part 2.
Have a great Monday!

Goal for the Week

I am over at Erika's blog T.E. and Baby participating in her weekly 'Goal for the Week' linky party. Click here to participate. By the way I love that she does this because I feel like if I post and participate that somehow I am holding myself accountable?

My Goal for the Week looks alittle different than what I would normally focus on (although the clean laundry in my laundry basket are silently asking to be put away). This week I want to organize my family tree and continue my geneology search.
Geneology is important to me because of my belief. Mormons do family history to link our generation to our forefathers. We believe in being an eternal family and if we don't know who our ancestors are, how can we "link" us together forever?

It has been so hard for me to do this because I am first generation American. My family is from Colombia and most are from a little town called San Antonio de Prado. I have been utilizing resources such as Familysearch.org, however, not much has been found.

 I am getting little help from family. I am the only Mormon member, I dubbed myself a Pioneer, toot toot. But that is a whole other post(s).

So..it is time for me to reach out to a few contacts to get this thang going!

Sunday Sweet Sunday

I had to go incognito to re-align a few things that have been pending in my life. I feel sometimes that all this blog reading at times transports me to a place of wishing and one-daying {Marilyn term meaning one day I will ________.}

So a few things that have been up with me is a new way of eating. Hubs and I have committed to not eat out so often and cooking our meals at home and taking our meals to work. I am eating 3 meals a day, high protein lo carb, with 3 snacks in between. Drinking LOTS OF WATER has also curbed my appetite (which is great because I could eat like a sumo wrestler).

Second, I am exercising. I am running 2 miles a day and practicing hot yoga twice a week. This has totally made me more calm, less stressed and gain more energy. It has also made me more conscious of the foods that I eat and has taken my mind off of the other things (ttc).

Third, taking pictures. I don't know about you but I was slacking on the taking pictures piece but ever since I downloaded Instagram, I have been taking like 3413 pictures and have been thinking of photo-taking opportunities. I love to take pictures to preserve memories because who knows what I was doing in 2010 because I have like 4 pictures of myself and hubs and unfortunately they are of me making my famous crazy face:

{my friend Sara and I ice-skating at the Rockafeller Center in NYC 2010}

Moral of the post? No more wishing and one-daying, just be and do.
